When a small corner unit became available in The English Market right opposite their main stall, the O’Connells decided to go for it. ‘Smokehouse’ is a small off-shoot brand of K O’Connell Fishmongers selling their own smoked Irish salmon, along with a range of cooked, cured, dried & salted seafood products.
Almost square in plan, it was a simple enough layout, with two square profile, glass serve-overs, stainless steel worktops and a handwash on the rear wall. It was decided early on that this stall would have a different look and feel to their main stall and so a new palette of colours and materials were developed. Warm cream tiles, an almost-black navy paint color on the walls and dark blue resin floor played backdrop to the bright orange neon sign reading ‘smokehouse’. The rich colour of smoked salmon flesh was also highlighted by a thick slab of orange marble on the corner.
